About

Charani Ranasinghe is an emerging printmaker based in Canberra, with a passion for unveiling the hidden beauties of nature through her art. Her journey into the world of printmaking began at the Strathnairn Arts Centre, where she first experimented with various techniques under the guidance of established artists. Over the years, Charani has honed her skills in printmaking, developing a unique style that reflects her fascination with the intricate details of the natural world.

Charani’s work is characterised by a playful and multicultural approach, often blending different printmaking techniques such as intaglio, linocut, collagraph, gellii plate, and monoprinting to create depth and texture in her art. Her innovative use of small collagraph plates, assembled like a jigsaw puzzle to form larger artworks, has become a signature element of her creative process. Recently, she has begun incorporating subtle needlework, beadwork, and embossing into her prints, adding another layer of complexity and elegance to her pieces. She has exhibited her work at various group exhibitions in and around Canberra for the last 10 years.

In addition to her printmaking, Charani has expanded her artistic repertoire with the creation of the “Bindu” earring and pendant collection, inspired by her love for beads and shapes. Each piece is handcrafted with porcelain, original Delft blue, African, Asian, or semi-precious beads, and finished with sterling silver or stainless steel, making each item truly one-of-a-kind. The collection, named in memory of her beloved Golden Retriever, “Bindu,” reflects Charani’s dedication to detail and her multicultural influences.
